HELP! Family dilemma: should our newborn be around family that has recently been out if the country?

As the title states, my wife and I recently had our second LO (4 weeks today). My brother and sister-in-law have invited us over this weekend for a barbeque for my sister-in-law's birthday. Both our family and her family have been invited. Our families know each other very well, but her entire family (including her, my brother, and their child) have recently returned from a 3 week stay out of the country (we live in the US).My wife wants to go with our newborn, but we are concerned with potential exposure to illnesses. I know it's risky having family visit a new born in particular for this reason, but I feel like with them having been out of the country for so long, very recently, there is an increase in the risk of our son being exposed to something that is uncommon here, i.e. TB, pertussis, measles.I don't think anyone would be angry of we didn't go, using our son as the reason for not attending. On the other hand, if we do go, I know my sister-in-law's family will definitely want to hold the baby. Should we go? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2jIwVwa
