I have a 10 and 6 year old daughters. I know for a fact that both know most if not all of the standard "bad words". My youngest had a classmate in kindergarten that routine said shit, and fuck, and asshole etc.But we have alway discouraged this sort of talk in the house, and I've never heard my kids say any of those words, ever. When watching movies like the marvel movies, occasionally a character will say Shit, and I make sure they understand that just because it's in a movie, doesn't mean it's ok to use those words. My wife still seems upset that I've "exposed" them to such language by watching these movies, fen though we both know my oldest has known these words since kindergarten as well. However my question lies not in those curse words, but in milder ones. The other day my wife asked me to grab a few things from the basement, I forgot to get one of them, when she asked where it was I said "Shoot! I forgot it"She quickly said "hey! Don't say that in front of the kids"I paused and said "umm, wait. I said shoot..."She said "I know"I said "I can't say shoot?"She said "yes, you may as well be saying shit"I said "what? That's ridiculous"She said "no its not"I said "so if I say "darn" that's the exact same as saying "damn" "She said "yes"I said "I can't say fudge either?" (Not that I really do)She said "no, it's the exact Sam as the f-word"My oldest is 10, and this is the first I'm hearing about this. I use the term "shoot" often, and have since I was a kid, to mean "oops" and suddenly it's now the same as the word shit.Is my wife overreacting? Or am I using "curse words". Personally I feel my wife is being a bit unrealistic, but maybe I am wrong. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2hzKMnD
