My LO (20 months old) is becoming very aware of her dirty diapers. How to remedy this?

My daughter has become quite aware of her dirty diapers recently. She will come up to me, pulling at her diaper saying "Eww. I pooped" or "yuck". She also has begun to take off her diaper at the slightest wetness. There have been countless times when I have discovered her without a diaper because she took it off. Yesterday, I heard her exclaim "Eww! Eeeww! Ew!" and when I investigated, I found her sitting on my bed with her poppy diaper around her knees. Sigh.She's not quite two so I am hesitant to think that this is a sign of potty training readiness. But I am going through diapers like crazy. I just bought a box last week and I'm already down to like 3 or 4. I have tried cloth diapers on her but it appears she hates those just as much if not worse.So my question is if there is any way to help her with her slightest discomfort? Is it possible she is ready to potty train? Should I just tough it up and deal with this excessive use of diapers for awhile longer? Thanks for your help fellow mommas and dad's.
