My kid turned 18 & graduated this week. I want to give him advice about college, but he's not listening

So first he wanted to move from FL (home) to WA for college. They accepted him, that's great. But I am a very poor single mother, and I can't help him move or give him money for expenses while he's there. My parents were here this week and told him they wanted him to move in with them to MS to go to school. He and I think that's a little nuts (they're super conservative/religious so that's a hard "no"), but I would like him to stay close to home (cheaper, in-state, etc.). Now he wants to go to a private college in-state, and it still expensive as hell. I REALLY want him to go to a local community college first, then I honestly don't care what he does. But I'm a firm believer that you can save tons of money going to a two-year first. How do I convince my kid of a smart choice? (Also: he had fair to middling grades and didn't apply himself very well in high-school, and I don't want him to waste his money or time if this does not work out.)TL;DR: How do I get my kid to choose the cheaper, closer college? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2rEJMCt
