A child protection worker came to my house yesterday, and I'm glad.

I started looking after my 13yo sister full-time around 6 months ago after my mother lost custody of her. Yesterday, I got a call from my local equivalent of CPS letting me know that they were going to stop by and interview me and my sister because someone had called them, but they couldn't tell me what for. After speaking with us both, they left satisfied that no abuse was going on. I now know that someone had called because they had seen some bruises on my sister's arm and legs. I'm sure ordinarily a few bruises would not be enough for a house visit, but considering my sister's history I totally understand why they felt it necessary. I don't know who reported it, and even though it was scary and ruined my day, I'm glad it happened. It means that someone else is looking out for her.It ended up that the bruises on her legs were just typical clumsy kid stuff, but there was a bruise on her arm that I actually had accidentally caused. We go walking together pretty often, and I will occasionally lightly punch her arm and she retaliates. We both see it as an affectionate thing, but if it is leaving bruises I'm obviously doing it too hard, even if it doesn't cause her pain. I suppose I just want to say, thank you to all the people around the world that make phone calls. Even if it ends up being nothing, it feels good to know people care enough to make sure kids are safe. Thanks for reading my blog post I guess. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2LCI2Bo
