My kid started K last week. It seemed like they were doing well. Three days in, we found out that they had bitten kids and ran away during the afterschool program. My kid isn’t able to explain what happened before that. It sounds like something made them angry, the incident happened, and they ran because they got scared. They said they only bit one kid. One too many, I say. This incident is pretty unlike my kid in a school setting. They have bitten a little bit in the past at home when they were younger, but not frequently and not severely. At home, if they get really upset, they will run back into the house, although one day they ran down the sidewalk. This has never happened at preK. We always, always address negative behavior and talk through it/give a time out. Prior to this, I would have described my kid as active and sensitive (they can be anxious and sometimes shy).I made an appointment with a social worker to figure out what’s up. I have to meet with a program director next week, and I’m afraid of what they will say and that I will cry through the whole meeting. We don’t have much money for another afterschool program, and most of them are full. I would appreciate any thoughts you all have. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2HRYKvv
