So...At his bedtime one night I was telling my 9yo son how awesome I think he is & he flat out starting bawling. Then I started reading some positive affirmations to him like “you are loved, Brave, u make friends easily, you are intelligent, courageous etc etc”’& he got out of bed & went to the bathroom & couldn’t stop crying?! I have NEVER seen a reaction like this from him. I tried getting through to him. Asked why this makes him sad, but he wouldn’t answer me... I feel like either something happened that we don’t know about & the kid is traumatized or he is depressed & cannot help it. We’ve been noticing some signs. Low self esteem = not believing in himself to join sports teams, make new friends, etc. I am very worried but also hopeful because I am able to recognize these symptoms so early. I really think we should put him in counseling but my husband does not think it’s necessary as of yet, He has a family history of strong depression on both sides as well.
