Toddler does not pick up her toys

My daughter (2.5) will throw her toys all over the place and will NOT pick them up or it's a real struggle. I have tried to sing that terrible Barney song "clean up", helped her clean up then tell her "team work". My friends (who are parents) suggested I throw them away. Today, she made a mess, asked her to clean up (a few times). DefiantIy said no, I grabbed her toys and told her say "goodbye". She cried. Said good bye. And got over it. Went on to a new toy. No I did not throw them away, I went to my laundry mat and left it there for me to bring it back without her knowing. I'd rather donate than throw away good toys.
