Why do parents bother to teach their sons to pee standing up, when all they do is make a huge mess?

I am in no rush to teach my 3.5 year old son to stand and pee, but soon he will start preschool and I'm tempted to demand they do not teach him to stand while peeing. Saying this out loud, I sound crazy, but why rush it? What is the reason for it? All I ever hear, literally 100% of the time, are complaints of the smell of the bathroom, and enormous mess boys create. Also, how their bathroom habits get worse and more disgusting as they get older. So why on earth are we pushing this like there is no other way for them to pee? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2xaWNDB
