School uniforms and gender issues. Really need advice.

My daughter attends a Charter School, which is privately run but still falls under the classification of Public School. The uniform policy states that girls may not wear shorts, which are available for boys. Girls may wear either skorts or pants. My daughter does not really identify as a girl and is not comfortable wearing the skort (it is a skirt front with shorts back). She would be fine wearing pants, however they do not sell pants that fit her. We can only buy our uniforms from one company. She is very tall, thin and has really long legs (to get a pair long enough, we would have to order a 38" waist, which would have to be taken in over 10". They all come pre-hemmed too). My nephew had a similar problem (he is 6'4") at this school and just wore shorts (it doesn't really ever get cold here), but since my daughter is biologically a girl, she can't.I really don't know what to do here. I think the policy is sexist and unfair. I usually would have no problem fighting for her right to wear shorts, but she is in a really difficult place at the moment and I don't want to put any more stress on her. She is really struggling with her identity and gender. She is kind of straddling the gender fence at the moment, which isn't really a comfortable place for her and this stupid short/skort issue makes things worse. It is kind of polarizing. What do I do here? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2ubyCmB
