Moved into a new home with the staircase from hell. Anybody install baby gates in a really tricky location? All suggestions welcome!

The home is great except for the staircase leading from the first to second floor. It was built in the 80s by someone who had never heard of (or maybe hated?) children. Here are a few images.So far, anything I have found will not fit the bill for one reason or another. Have any of you ever found baby gates that attach with some kind of "claws" or clamps?
