Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 6

Official website, click "Find a shop" and punch in your zip code.Secondarily, check your public library website so see if it's participating. Mine is, and isn't listed on the event website, presumably because it's not a comic book shop. Some parents avoid comics, preferring books perceived as providing a richer vocabulary or plot or whatever. To be a good reader, a kid needs to practice. To practice, a kid needs to enjoy what he's reading. To enjoy reading, he's got to pick the material himself. I've never met a kid who didn't enjoy reading a comic book or graphic novel. And they graduate onto heftier material in due time. And as for vocabulary, try re-reading Calvin & Hobbes sometime. Written for adults, my kids love it, and they're always asking me the meaning of words.(I'm a parent, not affiliated with this event. I just get pissed off because I miss it every year, but somehow catch after-event posts about it on Reddit.) via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2paaLjQ
