My 5 year old son started full day kindergarten two weeks ago. He previously attended PreK 3 mornings per week. He loved school and never showed a trace of separation anxiety.He does have some quirks - he loves to read and started on his own at age 2. He is very sensitive and gets scared easily, particularly of movies. He had an IEP last school year for OT services for fine motor delays but was evaluated to be at age level at the end of the school year and services stopped.We thought he would love kindergarten and he was excited to start. The first two days went well, then it all fell apart. He is extremely anxious at school and cries a lot. He gets scared of any screen, from a tv clip played in music to the smart boards. He cries and panics unless he is with an adult and doesn't want to participate in class activities. His teacher says he is really trying and that he's very polite and well behaved but he's upset constantly.They tested him and he's reading and comprehending at a 4th grade level. It may be higher because they stopped the assessment when he became anxious. They also think he is behind on fine motor again. They are going to be requesting an evaluation and in the meantime he is getting a lot of one on one support and some enrichment. The school has been great in working with him.This is heartbreaking because he's normally a laid back, happy kid. Does anyone have or know of a kid with uneven skill sets/maturity - if it weren't for the reading level I'd consider waiting a year and trying again next year. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2cZLHtR
