Awkward parenting moments are sometimes the best parenting moments

Today I took two of my boys (5 and 3) to a birthday party where there was a bounce house that got out of control. The bigger kids were wrestling, and for me it was right at the line between good fun and dangerous given the size discrepancies. Eventually, the oldest and largest kid grabbed my three year old by the neck and began to try and shoved him into the corner. But before I could even utter a word, my normally quiet, reserved, and frankly meek 5 year old came screaming across the floor and dropped a shoulder into a boy who outweighed him by 20 pounds. Drawing upon our years of rough housing, he pulled the other kids arm back, and then worked him into a half Nelson while screaming, "you don't hurt people, you don't hurt my brother." The older kid yelped, and as I locked eyes with his parents, I couldn't help but be a bit proud that my little son had no mercy for someone who was trying to hurt his little brother. Though usually it is my older son who is making my younger kid cry, and though he sometimes laments his brothers mere existence, I realized that he did love his brother. The other parent was upset, saying his son was just playing around. And I did make my older kid apologize. But after, I took him out and got him an ice cream. He doesn't know why - but it's because i don't think i have ever been more proud. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2dfLuny
