What goes on in a man's mind when they are not ready to be a dad?

My ex [29m] and I [30f] have a daughter [3y] together. He's been an absentee father but recently reached out and "changed his ways." However decided to disappear again when I invited him to Chucky Cheese for our daughter's birthday last weekend. I'm at a loss of words. My daughter is a toddler and is starting to act like him but he has never been involved with her. It's sad. I honestly wish I understood his fear in parenting her or if it really is me he hates. Can someone explain male behavior when it comes to having a child with an ex girlfriend? I get it if he hates me but our daughter deserves so much better than him as a father and I really don't know how to talk to him and address this anymore. I feel like no contacting again and call it quits. I'm tired of trying to keep the peace but I seriously don't want my daughter to be raised only to feel she's not good enough for her dad's attention. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2dlSQSA
