Last week my fourth grader didn't get on the bus to come home. While I was waiting at the bus stop, I got a call from the secretary that he was in the office, he had thought he was supposed to be a car rider that day (he was supposed to be a car rider the following day). So said I would come get him after I got my daughter off the bus. A few minutes later I got a text from his teacher telling me she hopes he's okay and she's sorry about his glasses and that dodgeball isn't allowed to be played at school anymore. I replied that I didn't know what had happened yet and didn't think anything of it. After picking up my son, we rushed home and got ready for baseball practice. When we got to baseball, my son was really sleepy and aggravated. He didn't even have the energy to walk and he was very uncoordinated and sensitive to light. I decided to call his Dr. who told me to take him to the ER because they'd want to do imaging tests, which they can't do in the office. We go to the ER and they diagnose him with a minor concussion and say to follow up with the pediatrician. Which we did the following day, she gave us a whole protocol to follow for the next week. Later that night, I noticed that his pupil were different sizes, so back to the ER we went for a CT scan. His brain looked normal on the scan, so now we have to follow up with his ophthalmologist. All this to say, he got hit in the head with a dodgeball so hard that his glasses snapped in half, got a concussion, and no one at the school thought to call us at any point. He went to the nurses office right away and told her what happened, that his glasses broke, everything, and she gave him an icepack and sent him on his way back to class.I've emailed the principal just to make sure he was aware of the situation and to share my concern with the lack of phone call. All I got in response was a robotic sounding reply that they would put it in his file that we want to be called anytime he's in the Health Office.I'm not asking for a whole lot, I'm not interested in any legal pursuits, I just want to know that my kids are safe at school and in the event of an accident, I'll be notified and given the chance to decide whether or not he needs medical attention.Am I wrong for being upset? I've asked for a copy of the incident report, which I'm very doubtful they've actually filed. What would you do? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/32qgXZ6
