Trouble with the X again

So I have a mixed family, a 9 Y/O girl from a previous relationship and a couple young ones from my current marriage. I have my oldest during the summer and every other week during the school year, last weekend she came home worried because her mother told her we were going to have a 9.2 earthquake and fall into the ocean... I explained to my daughter that there are many earthquakes in our area every year and that instead of worrying about a big earthquake we should go over the plan of what to do in the event of a big earthquake. We talked for a bit and she was calmed down enough to go to sleep. My question is how can I protect my daughter from her mother saying stuff like this? Is there a way to prepare her for that? I don't think telling her that her mother is stupid or something like that is a good parenting move but i am running out of ways to explain some of the ridiculous things that her mother is telling her. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Mapric
