Help With Bad Habits!

During the school year, my son lives with his dad and family (wife and 3 siblings). I live 2000 miles away, so we modified our visits to cover any holiday from school that lasts longer than a few days (a week for spring, a week for winter, 6 weeks in summer).Every time my now 8 year old comes to us for the summer, we have to retrain him in some way.Last year, all he wanted to do was sleep and watch tv and drink soda. We took him to the doctor, found out that he had exercise induced and allergen induced asthma, started his medicine, and encouraged activities. The summer went great. This year, his dad got him a smart phone without giving us any warning or rules. He would stay up all night playing games on it until I started taking it away at 9pm.We’re staying at my parents’ place for 6 weeks. My husband and I are sharing a bedroom with our 8 month old baby, and my kid is downstairs in another bedroom. At night, he’s been eating EVERYTHING. My dad takes soda, nutter butters, etc to work, and my kid won’t leave them alone. He has his own snacks (apples, goldfish crackers, granola bars, yogurt, and string cheese) but he doesn’t touch these, just my dad’s junk food.In the past two nights, he’s gone through almost 3 dozen nutter butters. All day long, it’s a fight to get him to eat anything, because I refuse to feed him ramen and buttered noodles like his dad. Then he gorges on junk at night. The worst part about it is that he’ll lie to your face about it, and will stuff the wrappers everywhere in the living room. He’ll also stand at the back of the shower instead of just taking a shower, and rub toothpaste on his tongue instead of brushing.I’m going nuts! I’m ready to start locking all the cabinets at night and forbidding the use of electronics. All advice appreciated, because long talks and threats of losing privileges aren’t working. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2LFAkIz
