How much TV do your kids really watch? Any tips for someone who is trying to wean the kids off of the boobtube?

Just curious. I've been cutting my kids (5 and 7 year old boys) off a lot. I've gotten over a lot of the depression that I've had over the years. I would turn on a learning show for the kids and then go wallow in self loathing - usually in an escape like gaming or reading. (edited to add: And no, I didn't ignore them, I was attentive to their needs: I fed, bathed them, occasionally went to the park, etc. But, afterwards I wasn't sure what else to do. So, I let them play with all the toys they had. It's gotten 100% better now).I have the kids full-time and my ex-husband complains that I let them watch too much TV. Sometimes I wonder if its easier said than done. He has them every other weekend. He has about several days to do everything he needs to do personally and for work. Then, devote 100% of his time to the kids (of 50% of his time since he's always with his gf, but that's another post). Their weekends are filled with trips, bike riding and stuff. Our weekends are as busy since I'm not doing well financially and sometimes I have to work at home over the weekends (I do customer support at home)On the other hand, I'm going to school, working and stuff at their schools and of course taking care of them. So, lot of time stuff overlaps. So far I've chopped a lot of tv time down during when they are playing with toys and eating by playing music (I'll turn on a Minecraft jams or some 8-bit video game music. They love that stuff). via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2pSkzD6
