Gonna need you password, Kiddo

Just noticed my 10yo put a password on his phone. There's no sim, but he can still use it to call 911 if someone is inappropriate with him while out and about, and with wifi he can use it to call me through messenger, if he needs to - plus it's an old one of mine with the screen already banged up, so no worries about breaking something expensive (for me or him!)...But it still does connect to the internet... and there's no way he's having free rein unsupervised on the net. So today I told him I'd need for him to give me the password. Told him that I wouldn't snoop or judge, but that it's my job to make sure nobody is approaching him inappropriately, or he's not inadvertently doing anything dangerous, which is very easy to do on the internet. He could still keep it passworded, protect his privacy from his brothers, (the MEME KING older brother does love to troll people by posting weird shit on their facebook, little bastard has gotten me once or twice, my boyfriend filled his feed with "barbie girl" videos... it was a whole thing...)"Sure, no problem, mom!" and he gave me the password... after blushing a little, to which I said, "What's wrong, is it MOMSUX or something!?" - it was just his name lol... he thought I'd find it unimaginative. We discussed internet privacy between kids and parents and I told him it's not about a specific age, but that I would trust him when I saw that he was safe, naturally. And that one way or another, at 18 he could do whatever he wanted with his own damn phone. So feeling pretty good about all that - amazing how easy this shit goes when you don't go on like your kid is a sneak or an idiot. Or being a sneak or an idiot yourself! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2pKSayo
