Trouble at Kindergarten

My five year old is having problems at school. He's been in school for over a month now, and throws temper tantrums when asked to redo work or write. His tantrums last up to an hour. I was not aware of this before; his teacher quit last week, and did not tell us about his tantrums at any time. He does not throw tantrums around me, and does his homework and any practice stuff without complaint. He does throw tantrums around my SO.So, he'll be going to a child psychologist in the near future. I want to help him. Any advice would be appreciated.
