I am a single dad of two boys - 7 and 10 - and needed childcare maybe 15 hours a week. I fully understand that there is no such thing as a perfect sitter and sitters generally have low job prospects (you don't see professionals giving up a solid career to babysit). It's a gig job. What makes me laugh is how many sitters try to charge $25, 27 or even 30 an hour. That's more than what a teacher makes an hour and all a sitter is doing is making sure the house doesn't catch on fire. I asked them what makes them so qualified for such a high rate and they really don't have an answer that relates to being a sitter. I interviewed one girl who said she had a Master's in Art History and another that worked with autistic kids. If you are stupid enough to hire someone at that rate, then you're making more work for yourself.I ended up hiring one of their school's after-school counselors and he was happy with a few more bucks an hour than what he was already making. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/33NA15g
