My son (5) started kindergarten on Wednesday. Because of conflicts with our work schedules he goes to before care at his daycare from 7:30 until 8:30. The bus comes directly to the daycare to take the kids to their schools. There are 5 elementary schools in the district and the daycare sends busing for all of the schools. My son and another boy missed the bus this morning because they were in the bathroom. The other boy was 8 and in 3rd grade. One of the daycare workers decided to drive both boys to school. They asked the oldest where he went to school and he gave them a name of a school in the district. They asked my kindergartener what school he goes to and my son named a different school. My son has speech issues and the worker didn't understand what he said. She dropped the first boy off at school and drove to 2 of the other elementaries and asked my son if either of those were his school. My son can be pretty oblivious and 3/5 elementaries have the same layout. My son picked one of the schools and told the daycare worker that he thought it was his school. She lets him out in the parking lot and pulls off. My son said he walked up to the door and waited until someone let him in. Once he was in the building they asked how he got there and where his parents are. My son said he got dropped off by his teacher. He got scared when he realized he wasn't in his right building and didn't know where he was. His speech delay combined with him being upset made it very hard for them to understand him. He knows his address, phone number, parents names, and the name of his daycare but the principal said he couldn't understand what my son was saying. Eventually they decided to look into the district database and found my son because there was only one other kindergartener in the entire district with his name and my son was able to answer yes or no when they asked if he was John Smith or John Jacobs (Not real names). The school eventually found my contact information and told me they would drive him to his real school. I thanked them but took off work to pick my son up early. They said he was in tears and refusing to get in the car with someone else.I'm pissed at the daycare worker. I spoke to them about it and the daycare teacher didn't deny any of it other than the part when my son said she dropped him off in the parking lot. The daycare teacher said she dropped him off in front of the school. I asked why she didn't wait to make sure he got in and she said that she had to get back to the school. If she waited she would have figured out quickly that she dropped him off at the wrong school. She basically told me that this is my son's fault for not being able to identify his school. I know my son should have done a better job but this is his 3rd day and the school looked like the one he goes to. She admitted that he tried naming a school but said, "I never know what he's saying." That pissed me off more. I want to go above her head but my husband says that's an overreaction.
