How important is handwriting? (2nd grade)

So as the title suggests, how concerned should I be about my 2nd grader's horrible handwriting? Part of me thinks it's no big deal since she'll by typing for 90% of her life, but I'm not sure if it's a symptom of some other problem that we're not facing. She is an excellent reader and loves books, she does fine with math and other stuff, it's just her handwriting is terrible, oversized, sometimes with backwards letters, etc and she has no desire to practice. She gets very combative when we bring it up and says she's "doing her best" but it's REALLY bad, like her cousin who just started kindergarten has neater writing.
