Pretty simple scenario, there is no problem with it we're just curious as hell what he might be trying to tell us. My son keeps pointing to his open palm about 5-10 times per day like he's trying to show us something. Whenever he sees someone he hasn't seen in a while or meets someone new, he does it. When he has been playing for a little bit, he'll stop and do it. At first we thought he might have a splinter but it's been weeks and he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. We didn't intentionally teach him to do that, like sign language or something. I don't expect this to be a universal baby symbol for anything, but what can I look for to figure out what this means?
