Background: I've always loved music and playing instruments. I played several while I was growing up and still play drums to this day as a hobby. I was primarily a trumpet player in school but dabbled in most other instruments too. My involvement in various band classes and honor bands in school was something I'd consider to be the defining experience of my youth. I had such a strong interest in music that I taught myself some basic music theory and even wrote a bunch of music for concert band, drum corps, small ensembles, and orchestra while I was in high school.Fast-forword a decade and I've married into an extremely non-musical family. The running joke is that only one of my wife's siblings ever tried an instrument and it only lasted a week. His other hobbies, primarily sports, were both more important and time-consuming.We have an infant less than 3 months old and we love being parents. Haven't played my horn in years, but I still have a discerning ear and healthy appreciation for musical talent. I want to help impart some of that on my child one day. I'll get virtually no help from my wife because she has never held that interest, and that's totally ok. How do I go about encouraging it for my son? I don't want to dictate what he should enjoy and force him into hobbies, but I would like for him to appreciate music in the way that I did as a young'n and still do today. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2a97Oid
