Need advice for night wakings

I am super sleep deprived so I am apologizing for my rambling and awful sentence structuring now. So this is what's up:I have a one year old and we have been trying to gently sleep train her for months with no progress, we have been bedsharing up until last night. Last night I succumbed to trying to CIO with me in the room with her in the crib (in her own room) and me in a mattress so I could stay with her while she cried. She cried for fourty minutes then finally went to sleep, I felt awful and cried too so please only constructive comments. Anyway she went to sleep but then woke up 2.5 hours later at 11:30 wanting to breastfeed and I let her, she actually seemed hungry. Then she fell asleep on my lap and I put her in crib again right away but she went to sleep, I was surprised but relieved. She then woke up again at 2:00am and we did the same thing, and again at 3:30am then again at 5:00 am but I had to take her back In our bed because I was exhausted and she wouldn't go back to sleep without being next to me. So I know that I need to at least cut the feeds in half. I also wonder if this is habitual waking because the whole reason I needed to start sleep training is because she was waking every two hours to feed in our bed and it got so out of control. So I'm unsure if I should try to go in an hour before the usual wake time and stir her a bit to get her to try to get out of this habitual waking. I also don't know what method to use to get baby to go back to sleep without feeding. I have a three year old so I try to get her back to sleep in the middle of the night without crying. I'm not sure if I can get away with getting her to sleep on her own without a feed without crying but I want too. She also was/is a Velcro baby, I don't know if this info is pertinent, she is pretty willful. I guess I don't know what my next steps are and I'm trying it figure out what to do, and how I should go about tackling these wakings and weaning on the feedings. I'm pretty hopeless. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2KiBqpr

Elementary schooler wants to create his own website. What free web hosting site is best for kids?

Do any of your kids have their own blogs/websites that they have created? I'm thinking WordPress might be too complicated and not flexible enough, but I really don't like wix. It's not really going to be a blog, just a website with a few different types of pages. Is WordPress still the best option, or is there another free site that would be better? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2n1kv1e

Should I contact the paternal grandparents to let them know their grandchild exists?

I created this throw away account as this problem is very personal and embarrassing.I am currently five months pregnant with my first child. I was with the babies father for two years. In this time I met his family in a casual manner however we formed no kind of close relationship. During a break with babies father things became very heated and his family advised him to to stay away from me, at lease this is what he told me I can’t confirm this myself. We later got back together and our child was conceived.Since then he has been inconsistent ranging from attending appointments and being affectionate and making plans. All the way to no contact for weeks, aggressive outbursts and threats to leave and never come back.Ultimately it is best to say I expect he will not be involved and that is his choice to make. He has said many times he will never tell his family. However, his family have remained unaware through out A. That we got back together for several months and B. That I am carrying his child. As far as they are aware he ceases contact with me for good when our original break began.I have been given conflicting advice on wether or not to inform the fathers family. And I myself am conflicted. I want to do the right thing. Not cause drama or upset. Equally I would really like my child to have as much family present and involved as possible.I would really like to hear advice from people who have made this choice as well as parents of young adult sons as to what you would hope a girl in my situation would do.TLDR; I’m pregnant, Dad is not involved, his family don’t know and potentially don’t like me, would it be right or wrong to tell them. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2v5ap3E

17 Year Old Is Constantly Grounded, Disobeying Us

As far as my husband and I know, my 17 y/o son has been smoking weed for about a year or two now. We have, at this point, over the last 1.5-2 years, caught him and grounded him probably about 5-7 times. He is a great kid, and he's very smart. He does decently in school without really trying much at all. We are just very worried that the lying and pot smoking is a sign of something that is really wrong with him. We have showed him many articles about the effects of marijuana on the teen brain, and he doesn't seem to care, just brushes it off. He says he accepts the consequences of his actions, and if there is a lesson to be learned then he will learn it independently, without repercussions from us.What my son says/believes is that since he's 17, and will be in college in about a year, it's time that we stop hanging over him and what he's doing in his free time. As far as we are concerned, until the second he leaves our home it is our responsibility to make sure he is not doing things that will harm him in the future. We catch him stoned quite often, but I suspect he does very little to try and hide it at this point. About 2 months ago, we caught him letting his friends into our house to "hang out" while our whole family, including him, was away. We were absolutely furious with him, grounded him for a month, no phone, no going out, nothing. I'm not worried he would do something this stupid again. I don't think he would, he is a smart kid and is capable of weighing the pros and cons of such an idiotic decision. It's just the pot use and the lying I'm really worried about.. Things seemed to be getting better, until about 5 days ago, we caught him with pot in our house, which we had strictly said was NOT ALLOWED. We grounded him for another 2 weeks. Yesterday I came home from work to his friends walking down our block, so when I asked his younger brother, I discovered that his friends had been over at our house. He swears they weren't smoking, and he appeared sober (he works until 2:30 and I got home at around 5:30). I took his phone and we spent an hour going back and forth about what the best thing to do is. I doubt we'll ever see eye to eye. The lying is the biggest issue here. Why does my son refuse to listen to any of the rules we set?The relationship we have with him is pretty miserable. It's not like we hate each other, but I acknowledge that he does not feel comfortable at all being honest with us about what's going on in his life. I feel like I know nothing about him besides the fact that he likes to smoke weed. It really worries us. Whenever we ground him, he says something along the lines of "dont you get it?? youve grounded me over and over again and i keep getting in trouble for the same things, all it does is make everyone miserable". He says if we really want the lying to stop and our relationship to improve then he has to feel comfortable being around us and he has to respect us. He says it's impossible for him to respect us, look up to us, be honest with us, follow our rules, if he feels like we are constantly at war with each other, trying to stay one step ahead of one another to catch him/avoid being caught by us. When I ask him what a solution that he believes would work is, he says we need to get a fresh start with ground rules that he must follow, but we, in return, have to respect his privacy, stop searching his room, taking his phone, unless he has given us good reason. When I ask what he expects us to do when/if he were to break a rule AGAIN, he says that before calling him down and grounding him, a conversation about why we believe what we believe would be far more effective. He claims every time we ground him it just creates more anger and spite in our relationship and makes things worse. We don't know what to do. We have grounded him over and over again, and we hate doing it, and we know he hates it even more. He says that a shitty relationship with his parents is going to be more harmful to him in the future than any amount of pot he smokes. I just don't agree. I would do anything I could to stop him from hindering his potential, but I've tried everything and it just WON'T WORK. He seems to do what he wants regardless of us trying to stop him. We need some suggestions. If you have questions, feel free to ask and I'll respond as best I can. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Aw2Rw1

3 year old scared of male teachers at preschool.

I have been a stay at home mom since my daughter was born. My husband works a lot so he isn’t around us much so she isn’t around males much. Anyways she started pre-k part time 2 months ago. She loves it and has never cried when I left her not even the first day(she’s very outgoing and loves most people). She hasn’t had issues at school besides her teachers told me she didn’t much care for the male teachers(they are in other classes she only sees them when they go to the playground and play for like 20 mins a day). Well this week one of her teachers has been sick so she didn’t come in mon or today. They had a girl teacher she didn’t know cover her monday and my daughter was fine. Today it was a guy teacher and her other regular teacher and she would not let me leave. Once we got her calmed downed which took 15 mins she legit wouldn’t let my leg go she then screamed at the window for me to come back which was so hard for me. She has never done that before. Is this normal? How to do I get her to be more accepting of male teachers? They have 3 in the school so I’m sure she will have this situation again where they will have to fill in on Occassion! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2O2MNDR

Will I love my second as much as my first?

My wife and I have a 1 year old son right now named Josh. He is amazing, and adorable, and neat, and I love him more than I imagined I could love another human being. I always lay him down after saying a line from a song I once heard, "there are fancy cars and diamond rings, but you know that they don't mean a thing. They all add up to nothing compared to you."Last month we found out that my wife is expecting again, we are going to have another baby! During my wife's pregnancy with Josh, I constantly thought about what kind of person he would be, whether he was going to suck, going to be an easy baby, I just thought about him all the time. Now that I have him and I am teaching him and instructing him and disciplining him, I find myself never thinking about my baby on the way. I almost never think about baby #2.I am already worried about not loving this baby as much as Josh, and the fact that I almost never think about baby #2 makes me worried that my fear will come true. That I will be so busy and focused on Josh that I won't properly love and parent #2.Has anybody been in this situation before and have any words of wisdom for me? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2n3F4u4
