Teenager can't retract foreskin. Getting differing opinions from doctors and don't know what to do.

My son is uncircumcised. We live in Alabama and most doctors here aren't familiar with uncircumcised wieners. My son still can't retract and his pediatrician recommended a circumcision. I read online and saw that some people still can't retract until puberty and went to get a second opinion from a urologist. He said that a circumcision wasn't necessary and told us that it will retract on its own during puberty. We went to get one more opinion to be be sure and the next urologist recommended circumcision.I don't know what to do. My son isn't in any pain. He still hasn't started puberty yet and now I am questioning if that's normal. I hate living somewhere where doctors are so uneducated about foreskin. What do I do if everyone is telling me something different? My son is 13. He will be 14 in September. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Jdy2wH

New sleeping issue for my 8 year old.

Hi r/parenting, I have an increasingly difficult problem on my hands. My child has their own room that is just down the hall from the room my wife and I sleep in.Each night, my wife puts her to bed. This requires her to lay in bed with my kid until they fall asleep. I sometimes don't get to fall asleep with my wife due to this, but that's not here nor there. My wife eventually sneaks out of the bed and sleeps beside me in our bed.Increasingly, the kid will wake up during the night and come wake up my wife (and me in the process) and either tries to crawl in our bed or takes my wife to her room to repeat the bedtime routine. However, now it isn't as easy to sneak out of the bed. The kid will complain, cry, anything to stop my wife from leaving. It's the middle of the night and no one is in good spirits. My wife will degrade quickly to yelling at her and berating her for her inability to fall asleep on her own.In the end, I end up leaving my own bed and letting her sleep comfortably until morning. This problem is unique to my wife. She travels often and my daughter and I do not have this night time issue. If you have any suggestions, I'm open. Thank you in advance.tl;dr My child wakes up in the night and can't fall asleep on their own. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2pYJDrg

Need advice about changing our two year old’s sleeping habits

For the past few nights, bedtime has been gruesome with my 23-month old. She is a pretty good sleeper, and had recently gotten into a really nice bedtime routine, but she is in the habit of laying on top of us to fall asleep. I mean, she basically hugs us and rests her face next to ours. She mostly does this just to fall asleep, and maybe once a few hours before waking up. But she is getting way too big to be doing that! My wife who is rather short and petite has an especially hard time with it.The thing is, if we don’t allow her to lay on top of us at bedtime, she goes into the most hellish of tantrums. She cries frantically and can’t be consoled except by being embraced one way or another. It’s been a very shocking and disorienting couple of nights. We want her to just lay next to us to fall asleep, but she won’t have it. Even though we are still snuggling her. There was a time in the past when this was her preferred position to fall asleep in. I don’t know what happened.I know it’s kind of an odd habit we have, but I’m positive many of you will have insight we could benefit from. Thank you! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2GwagKm

11 year old girl walk home alone?

My daughter is 11 and will be in middle school this fall. We pick her up from her elementary after school care everyday currently. It's really frowned upon to let elementary school kids walk home alone. We live a 10 minutes walk from her elementary school, and the bus driver from her summer program would wait for me to drive to get her when I was a few minutes late to the bus stop. She was not allowed to wait by herself. I don't know what would have happened if I'd have asked her to walk home. CPS would have been called?I think that was a little extreme. But I think because of this I'm apprehensive about letting her walk home from middle school. Both parents work, and earliest we get home is 5, school ends around 4. The walk is 20-30 minutes through our neighborhood. My neighbor is concerned about her walking too, and has offered to pick her up with her children. This contributes to my fear, too. There have not been any kidnappings in our area, or any crimes that have me particularly worried.I kind of want my daughter to have some independence, and I think walking would be good for her health, too. Husband agrees with me. Daughter thinks she's ready. We'll get her a cell phone to check in when she leaves school and gets home. Could you guys way in? I've seen some posts about this, but thought a little background of my own fears would help. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2GsNZ46

My FIL tried to hold my son hostage

I’ve been struggling with my postpartum depression and my husband and I agreed that it would be a good idea for him to stay with his parents a few days. We went over there talked it over with my MIL and she agreed. I asked her to watch my son(1) while we run to Walmart. As soon as we got back, I asked my husband to run inside and grab our son for me. After 15 minutes he’s still not back so I walk through the front door and hear my FIL yelling about since I have a mental illness and if I leave he’ll never see our son again. He went on for a while about how my son isn’t leaving the house. I walk out and began to cry in the car. My husband shortly comes out and tells me the rest of what my FIL said. Basically I can’t be trusted to not to kill my son tonight. He goes back in to talk to them and a few minutes later. My husband asks if it’s okay if our son just says the night. Fuck no, go get my son. FIL gave up on fighting and my son was outside in 5 minutes. I say there holding my baby crying for 15 minutes. They will never watch my son again. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2uDbbaD
