So we just received our daughters first report card and the majority of the remarks were that she was below the typical learning level of a child her age.Just for a little background, she is an absolutely amazing little girl. She plays really well with other kids, has a great sense of humor, speaks and listens well and is extremely sweet and loving. That being said she does struggle with remembering all of her letters and numbers which is what amounts to 90% of the report card in one way or another. For instance, one item that is on the report is counting from 1-100 by ones and by 10s. She currently can’t do this and to be honestly isn’t close.Basic math such as 2+2, 2+3, etc. is another topic she struggles in.Letters she uses on a regular basis such as her name or unique letters such as “X” come easy to her but she can’t identify the entire alphabet which is also on the report. Her Mother and I don’t see eye to eye on the severity of this as I believe she’s only 5 and she will improve over time with her school schedule and very light “homework” including no schoolwork on the weekends. I don’t want to take away from her childhood for the sake of her being a little slower at learning. Her Mom believe we need to take this very serious and put her on a strict “homework” schedule not only every weekday but on the weekends as well. This is a very important topic to me and I could really use some advice. Any and all help is appreciated. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2KOLsS1
