Me and my husband want to spend our daughter's first Christmas down in my homeland of Portugal. We live in Norway and by the time we will travel our little one will be almost 6 months. The trip itself is a long one due to different transports we have to take and we are doing our best to plan things ahead of time and be more or less prepared for it to be a clown fiesta. We want general advice and people to see the schedule and how I want to do things in between "breaks". For reference, she breastfeeds which will make things a lot easier (I assume. She is also our first). So this is how things will go:Car->Train Station (about 10mins) + Train to Oslo (3 hours)[She will be a champ for sure on the train because we will have enough room for her stroller so she can for sure sleep throughout the journey and be a bit on my lap. Between arrival and check in I intend to take a blanket that she can use to play on while we wait to board. We will also be allowed to take the stroller to the boarding area since they will take it into the plane and we can be given priority to get in first to fix things. Here I'm not sure if I should take a harness/sling but we are not taking a car seat because of costs]-> Plane ride is about 4 hours.[Here is where things will get fussy. On landing, I will send my husband to get the luggage while I go to the bathroom with our daughter to feed+change her so she is ready for the next bit. When we check out, I might have to pass the stroller to my husband while I rush ahead to buy metro tickets. There is usually a line since it's a big touristic city.]Metro (30mins) -> Train to Porto (3 hours)[The trains back home aren't as spacious as in Norway so we will for sure have to have her on our lap for +3h. What can we do here if she wants to be active? Walk up and down the train with her? Should we have a small sleeping bag so she can sleep on our laps? Here I need some tips...]And that's the trip, the way back is the same but we will have to wait 4h30 at the airport after a train ride (again 3h) that leaves Porto at MIDNIGHT. So we will probably will have to sleep for the most part of the day while my family takes care of our daughter. But how to deal with the downtime at the airport?]Luggage:Here I've planned what to take and who will take it. (Note: we can wash clothes down in Portugal so we can reduce our load)Stroller that I will take(it's big enough to have something under or hanging);Big backpack that will count as cargo (husband takes it);Small cabin luggage (husband will carry this. It's one of those typical small luggage with wheels);Small backpack that I will carry (can go inside the plane);Big purse which will have most of the babies things (I will carry this too).So yeah, It's a long tiresome trip. I have not celebrated Christmas back home in four years and my family hasn't had the chance to meet our daughter yet plus my husband will experience Christmas there for the first time. It's a very meaningful experience for everyone here and I know it will not be easy but I want to have tips and ideas of what I should be prepared for (and yes, we will stuff everything with diapers and extra clothes for her :) )We appreciate your help in advance! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2pezjOJ
