My son turns 13 tomorrow (November 12th). He has been going through puberty and we’ve had discussions about what that entails including discussions about porn. A topic he brought up.I told him it was normal to be curious. That because of his age he really didn’t need that in his head yet as he wasn’t equipped to handle it emotionally. Also that porn doesn’t always accurately portray realistic situations.Up until recently he had assured me he hadn’t looked anything up which I verified. I knew though there would come a time when that would change.Recently over the course of a few days he’d been spending just a little extra time in the bathroom. Last Thursday he brought me he iPad and asked me to set the parental controls as he had been looking up porn the previous few days. He said he could see that it had the potential to become a problem. I also got his phone and set the parental controls on it.We had another discussion about it. He admitted he knew he wasn’t ready for it even as he liked what he was looking at. What made me laugh though was when a bit wide eyed he said, “Mom, now I know what THINGS look like!”I have to say I was impressed that he came to me and asked for the limits.
