My daughter (8yrs) has horrible anxiety and I dont know how to help.

My daughter has had health issues since she was about 2, she suffers with encopresis and enuresis and is now under a gastroenterologist and pediatrician which means in the last year she has made great progress. But now something else is rearing its ugly head, anxiety, it started out with just small things that seemed like normal little fears that all children have and work through but now its become something that is impossible to ignore or to justify as a passing phase. What started out as a fear of the dark or a general hesitancy to do new things has turned into long nights of tears and lost sleep due to her inability to shut off all the thoughts racing through her mind. She over analyses every situation and will think of every possible outcome before even thinking of attempting to do something for example, She wants to learn to ride her bike but she knows that learning means the possibility of falling and hurting herself so she refuses because in her mind its terrifying to consider doing something that could possibly cause pain. Her doctor has suggested a counselor and we are trying to find one she clicks with. Her principle has organised for a school counselor to see her but they come twice a term and for the short amount of time my daughter is with them she talks about everything but how she is feeling or strategies to try and help. What can I do in the meantime to help her? Are there any strategies that can help? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2NXA6gM
