TL;DR at bottom.Apologies for the long winded story and format - typed on mobile. My parents took turns tucking me in every night as a toddler, and if my mother had tucked me in on this specific night - I would have died. Luckily for me, it was my father’s turn.As my father was tucking me in, I looked and said to him, “Dad, today I drank my pills”. If it was my mom, I would have got a, “Shame my love, were you sick? You’ll feel better tomorrow.” and she would have written it off as something silly I said for attention and let me go to sleep. My dad on the other hand thought it was a bit strange and asked me if I could show him which pills. To his amazement, I walked to the bathroom, climbed onto the toilet, then onto the basin cabinet and then opened the medicine cabinet and handed him a bright green pill container. This pill container was used for thyroid medication. My mom had her thyroid pills twice a day and I must have seen her do it - and then decided to copy her. I drank 28 of her tablets - she had refilled the container a few days before.I was rushed to hospital and attended to appropriately.Kids will normally tell you if they have done something new or out of the ordinary. Listen to what they say and make sure you follow up on anything that sounds potentially dangerous.TL;DR - I drank a whole bunch of pills as a toddler. I told my dad about it and because he listened - my life was saved. Listen to what your kids say. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/341O3jh
