Thank you, Lowes / Humans

First off, this is my very first Reddit post - excited!Secondly, I want to state for the record that the person in this anecdote is NOT my child. It's not easy being a "special needs" parent. Parenting by itself is a land full of unknowns.. throw differently wired kids in the mix and you have an absolute day-day battle on your hands. I worry about the future of my differently wired kid every minute - who is going to give her a job? Will she EVER make friends? Can she survive in this world independently, at all? Will kids ever stop making fun of her?I was thinking these exact same thoughts while at my local Lowes garden center. I bumped into someone, and apologized. A really friendly voice said "it's ok!" and I looked up to see a young adult who was "different." I instantly worried for him and his wellbeing - would the other customers here understand that he too, is a person, and give him the same respect (or even more) as any other store worker? I made small talk with him, let him pet my dog, and went away. When I came back to stand at the billing counter, the most beautiful things (at least to me) happened:A customer addressed him by name, and asked him to look for something - like he would as any other Lowes employee. There was complete acceptance of this young adult for who he was.Another customer came back just to give this young adult a hug - for helping him lug heavy stuff into his car.His fellow Lowes employees (From what I could see) treated him with the utmost respect. This is what I want for my child. This is what I want for EVERY DIFFERENT CHILD.For that - Humanity, I thank thee. Lowes - I thank you, too. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2S5uLnI
