My son has been given 3 after-school detentions in the past two weeks for not wearing his uniform properly, Is this a suitable punishment?

I've got a letter from school today saying that they are close to excluding my son as he is either missing uniform items or refusing to wear them properly. I know for a fact that he's got 2 blazers, 2 ties, about 10 shirts and 6 pairs of trousers so he's deliberately hiding them to get out of wearing it.He's currently in year 9 and he thinks he's big and clever. For a punishment I am going to take all of his clothes out his room except his uniform so he'll have to wear that, even on weekends.
