Hello, I just need advice from parents who have been there. Our 2 1/2 year old has never thrown temper tantrums (either listens or whines), and is generally an easy going kid if we give him options. (He even potty trained himself). But lately, everything is a control struggle. He doesn't want to pee before bed, put on his pajamas, brush his teeth, get dressed in the morning... my husband and I are both trained in play therapy and know the theories- we give of heads up (10 more minutes until..), we give two options (these pajamas or these pajamas), we give positive reinforcement (m&m for poop in the potty), and we don't yell or hit. Lately though he just sobs and sobs and refuses to comply (even taking his pajamas off). It can go on for an hour. We've even tried negative reinforcement (lost your opportunity to play with --). But nothing seems to be working. He's smart but he's 2 1/2, so longer term rewards don't work- and we can't spend an hour every time he does this. We feel out of ideas.
