We have too many toys. I have one 4 year old daughter. She's the only grandchild on my husband's side, and the youngest on my side. I love thrift store and children's rummage sale shopping- we probably own a dozen costumes- all purchased used for under $5. We have blocks, duplo, bristle blocks, magnet toys, a marble run, toy food, playmobil, a doll house, paw patrol toys, games, puzzles, and outdoor toys. Some items were gifts, and many were bought used. I rarely buy new toys that aren't gifts unless it is for a very specific reason (e.g., getting kid's binoculars for a camping vacation). Still, we have way too much. My husband reminds me of this constantly. We recently moved and now the basement is set up as a huge playroom. This is awesome and my daughter has a lot of fun playing down there... but I'm realizing that she does more "dumping" of toys looking for her favorite items than I'd like. We also met some neighbors recently. Their kids are riding barely functional bikes. I realized that I would be slightly embarrassed to have them over to our playroom because our quantity of toys we have is exorbitant. We did get rid of all of the baby toys and the toy kitchen and toy doctor center when we moved. I bought a few wooden crates that can be rearranged to build forts or a store or a kitchen instead of replacing the big items with single-use toys. How do you pare down your kids' toy collection? How can we make better decisions on what we buy (and reduce the volume of gifts)? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2pXpU9W
