Does your child's school do them? How often? Why are they a thing? Any teachers want to chime in?I have researched and can't find a solid reason other than "automaticity," but that comes at the cost of causing anxiety in at least 1/3 of kids. My kid is fairly bright, he just shuts down whenever there is a speed element involved in anything. He was never a kid you could motivate by trying to race him to do something and I don't see where speed should even factor into mathematics. We don't time spelling tests. What am I missing here? The only positive info on doing them comes from makers of the various testing systems.
