son (9yo) will not stop stealing - help!

hey everyonei have been having a problem with my son now aged 9 since he was around 2 years old. he steals almost constantly - food and money mainly but also trinkets and things of total insignificancei lived with his bio dad until he was 6 and have lived with his now step dad for just over a year. he has stolen the entire time.bio dad used to use him to help him steal things from shops (i was unaware of this) and told him whenever they went anywhere together that he could just take what he wanted and put it in his pocket. if he ever got caught it was laughed off as he is just a child im very sorry etc. so bio dad basically taught him that stealing is fine. bio dad now sees him around once every 3 months overnight - he has visitation overnight every other weekend but he never uses it and has no contact with son when he isnt with him.i have tried absolutely everything i can think of to try and untrain my son and teach him that stealing is wrong - he has stopped stealing from everywhere apart from my home. so i think he realizes that it is wrong but he cant get himself out of that mindset.things i have tried so far:removing all electrical items / toys / booksremoving everything from his room apart from his bed and beddingtaking him to a police station to talk to a police officertaking him to see a therapisthe is currently in counselling via the schoolgroundingsmissing birthday (he stole 2 days before it)missing out on outings and tripsremoval of privilegeslecturesbegging/pleadingscreamingcryingignoring itstar charts noting his good behaviortime outsi have tried absolutely everything i can think of and i am just totally passed the point of knowing even where to look or turn right now. i was tidying up his room and i have found 6 packets of sweets (eaten) under his mattress from the left overs we had at halloween - its not like he hasnt got mountains of his own sweets from then but no he had to take more that werent his and eat them in his room. he says he doesnt ask because he knew i would say no - even though i said yes when he did ask me and gave him 2 of the packs of sweets on halloween night. he then goes to that he is hungry. he has a proper cooked breakfast every morning (at school) then a hot lunch and a proper home cooked dinner every night and then a desert if he has behaved well that day. i know he is a growing boy but there is no way in hell he is hungry.he will also take other things and just hide them in his room or at the bottom of cupboards or closetshe will lie and lie and lie even when he is caught red handed he will still continue to lie and lie and lie that it wasnt him until after a lot of crying on his part he will finally admit itwhat do i do? where do i start? how can i untrain him so that this isnt going to define his life? i dont want him to be a thief and a hoarder - he is so intelligent and sweet and caring and is the most wonderful kid you will ever meet apart from this. he has been checked for things like ADHD/ADD/autism/all the other mental health issues that display like this and we have been told that it basically is his training from his bio dad that is continually undoing any progress we make. the longest he hasnt stolen for was 7 weeks.please helpTLDR - 9yo son wont stop stealing no matter what i do - please help! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2fNXEVq
