Hey Parents! I'm new(ish) here! I used to lurk when I was a nanny but I've officially joined the ranks 2 months ago. Hooray! Before my time as a parent my go to gift for the kiddos in my life was a great book. Knowing that I paid an average of $7 for a board book and $15 for a hardcover I was worried about the sheer cost of building my child's library. Well I've discovered a trick. Many of you have probably also discovered this but after doing the math (I was blessed with a sleeper) I had to share. My magic trick? Thrift Stores of course. Books at Salvation Army, Goodwill, Savers, etc. typically run from .49-1.00 and if you go on certain days they're half off! My city also has a store where they sell retired library books and children's titles are .50 there. It takes some sifting, and I am very particular about the condition and content of the books I choose but I've had some amazing finds. Current popular books, Vintage classics...I even lucked out on some out of print first editions that are worth $20-130.So here's my math: 123 Books I paid: Less than $70 Retail (with Tax): $1429.41I know to a lot of people it isn't worth the effort but that's a huge savings for some quality books! While you're here, what are your favorites from your collection? I have a running list of books we are keeping an eye out for. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2dpCuXW
