Watching Niece

I (reluctantly) agreed to watch my sister’s baby until further notice, which might be all of this lockdown. I’m bad with kids and I love her, but she’s a hyper little shit that’s constantly pissing me off. What are some good parenting things I can do so she listens or is at least better behaved. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JybtE5

My toddler has started to run away and hide when he gets hurt.

For example he was running, fell, started to cry got up and ran away and hid behind a curtain. How can I break him not this ASAP!? Anyone deal with this? Any tips? I don’t want to yell at him about it because he will think he’s done something wrong. I want him to know if he’s hurt he can always come to mommy and daddy. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2yllNNq

Potty training - toddler stops peeing!

Due to my husband and I both being home for a few weeks we decided to potty train our 19.5mo daughter. She's given some signs she's ready like hiding to poop, communicating she is/has to go, pulling at her diaper, among other things. We read Oh Crap! and are trying that out... It starts with having your child naked and you place them on the potty every time they start to pee. Eventually the kid is supposed to get it and start trying to make it to the potty before peeing.Problem is, our daughter starts to pee standing up, then as soon as we move her to the potty she stops. Even if it's just a small tinkle so we know there has to be more. We've also tried the method of catching it with a cup. She also stops peeing for that! We'll sit her on the toilet (which she doesn't mind) for a bit, but she won't do anything and will only pee 10-15 mins later, standing up, on the floor.Do we need to wait? Is she not really ready? She's aware of what she's doing, it seems. I guess the good part is she's apparently able to "hold it" just fine whenever she wants to... via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/3dJQpII

As a mom, why is my career always seen as less important or “optional”?

I quit my job over three years ago to be a SAHM. We’ve since had another baby in that time, and our kids are now 2 and 3.Even though my fiancé and I made a similar amount back then, it was decided that I would quit due to breastfeeding and childcare costs. I never planned on staying home and not working for as long as I have been.Recently, I’ve been looking for work in different fields that offer better hours and pay. This has been an issue for EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. that I’ve told.“How much would you even be making?! It’s easier to stay home. It’s not healthy to put the kids with a babysitter.” -My fiancé’s mom“Just stay home with the kids. You don’t need to work.” -My fiancé’s dad“I’m not splitting childcare with you, so you might as well just stay home. You would only break even every month.” -My fiancéBasically, no one thinks my mental health and/or happiness is important. I need to work for my own sanity.I have goals too. I have dreams too. I have skills too. I have social needs too. I’m young enough to still get a very sustainable career going.Yeah, I don’t “need” to work, but why is my job always pushed aside and put on the back burner? No one would ever say this about my fiancé’s career. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2wKkibp

An April Fools parenting story gone wrong.

This story occurred four years ago. Background: my wife and I got married in April of 2015, bought a house that summer, and had decided to start trying to get pregnant around Christmas. I thought of it as “removing the goalie and we’ll see what happens,” but by February she had an ovulation tracking app and was in full-on “we are making a baby dammit, get with the program” mode. Still no success as of April 1st, so...My wife is getting ready to leave work and drive home when she decides to send a group text to all of her family (mom, dad, brother, uncles, etc) and me, the husband, that says “I’m pregnant!!! OMG!!!”Needless to say, I freak out a bit, and then I get pissed off that she decided to tell me in a group text with her family instead of in person, first. I call her up and she laughs and tells me it’s just an April Fools joke. Meanwhile congratulatory texts are pouring in from her family, who are going bananas, because it’s not only the first grandchild for her parents but the first member of the new generation in all of her mom’s side of the family. When she gets home (she had a 45 minute commute), she realizes this may not have been the best April Fools joke, seeing as this has sent her family into ecstatic shock and her husband is still sort of angry and confused. So she sends the obligatory “April Fools” text that is met with mixed reactions ranging from “haha got us” to confusion to genuine anger that they had been fooled. She’s got a great and quirky sense of humor that I love, but she was beginning to understand that she went a little too far.But then she realizes that she hasn’t actually tested in a few days. So she goes into the bathroom and emerges 5 minutes later with the positive test kit. That’s when I burst out laughing... it was too absurd to handle. We eventually hugged and got all excited and stuff, but then we had to wait the appropriate number of weeks before we told everybody... and then told them the real story behind the April Fools text. And that’s how we found out we were going to be parents.TL;DR 4 years ago my wife sent an April Fools text to her family about being pregnant before she realized she hadn’t tested that day and actually was pregnant. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/340snog

How do you deal with in-laws?

This is a fairly simple question and I can go into detail if needed, but how do you deal with uneducated and resistant grandparents (in-laws), that maybe teaching your child too many wrong habits and not following nutritional and behavioral guidelines that you have laid out for them? Thanks for helping out another parent! Cheers! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2UBFg5o
