Did my Dad sexually abuse me?

I remember when I was really young, around the ages of 6,7,and 8, my dad would do these random "check-ups" on my private part. I am a male and even at this age it was really uncomfortable. He would make me pull my pants down and would check my private part. I vaguely remember this stuff because I was so young but I still remember it because of how uncomfortable it was. I remember once he just randomly came into the bathroom and opened the shower door and made me show him my private part. He is very verbally abuse to me and has been this way for as long as I can remember. I have been in denial about whether he was wrong for doing this but when I think about it I just wonder, what was he thinking? Is this something that normal fathers do? I am 22 and I don't have any kids, but I wouldn't randomly check my son's private part and try and convince him that it is my duty as a father to do this.
