Books for Young Independent Reader

I'm struggling to find good books for my preschooler to read on his own (he just turned 5). He's a confident independent reader, but not quite ready to read chapter books like Magic Treehouse on his own (which are good for assisted reading, where we switch off reading pages). He likes Curious George, but he's read them all and they are too easy. Same with all the Pete the Cat stories. We recently tried a Nate the Great book and it seemed better, but still too easy.I think the struggle has been finding a match between a 5 yr old boy interest level and a much higher reading level. Everything on his reading level seems to be geared towards older kids. Besides Magic Treehouse, we've read Ramona, My Father's Dragon, some Roald Dahl, and the first HP together, all of which he has loved, but all the characters are older than him! I can tell he doesn't relate very well, although his reading comprehension is fine. Are there any more recent books that are good for young boys? Is it just me, or is there an oversaturation of kids books but a drought on good quality intro chapter books for young boys? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2zg1RMp
