“So... no male figures in her life?”

I’m not even annoyed, I’m just disdainful. I, a single mother, took my 5 year old to a new pediatrician recently. I clearly have our shit together and despite no health insurance yet, am financially secure enough to pay for things out of pocket, so this didn’t even come from a place of “oh, you need help managing”.The first thing the doctor asks me about is our home life. I say it’s just us, and he goes “no father? You have no father around either?” (I’m quite young.) “She doesn’t even have uncles to spend time with? No male figures in her life at all?” When I reiterate no, he shakes his head sadly and goes “she really needs a male figure in her life.”I was so appalled at his complete lack of professionalism, presumptuous, self righteous, and chauvinist proclamation I couldn’t even speak. Excuse me? She needs a male figure? Like the one that helped provide her with DNA before skipping off to live in the scenic views of Utah? I’m so enraged such interactions still happen, just had to get it out. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Cy7hks
