Our little girl woke up with a temperature of 102 and a horrible cough yesterday. Was diagnosed with croup, and we were given steroids last night to give her if she got worse. The pharmacist recommended giving her the steroids in the morning, as she said they could prevent her from sleeping. Also, the pediatrician said they could make her irritable.Last night was rough to say the least. She wouldn't fall alseep until close to 11 (normal bedtime is 8). She then work up at 3 am and couldn't be settled very much until 5 am. She just would work herself up and no amount of comforting would calm her down. It's her first real illness besides the occasional cold, so I'm sure she's scared.I'm planning on giving her the steroid when she gets up this morning. (Thankfully she's currently sleeping in.) How much relief should i expect her to receive from it. Also, how common is the irritability/lack of sleep side effect? Should i be worried that the steroid would work her up into the same croupy anxiety spiral she had last night? Also, does anyone have some tips on settling her down for sleep tonight? I just feel so bad that she isn't getting the rest at night i know she needs. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JItZKy
