My husband wants our 13 year old son to spend less time online. I agree that he spends too much time online BUT we had an agreement that he has followed. We have a computer in the family room so it's easy to monitor how long the oldest is spending online. We noticed that the number was creeping up a lot. We made a rule where he has to complete his responsibilities without being reminded and could manage his own screen time if he showed us that it wouldn't interfere with anything else. He gets his homework complete, studies for test, bikes to school (exercise since he doesn't like sports), plays an instrument, taking care of hygiene, and is involved in a cooking class for teenagers. He still has a lot of time left over to play games, especially on the weekends. Yesterday he spent about 5 hours straight playing games and watching YouTube videos. He did this after completing his chores and doing his homework. We made him get off to shower and help with dinner. After dinner he went back on the computer. My husband and other two kids are extroverted. I think that has something to do with it. My husband sees him as wasting time but doesn't see our middle playing basketball as wasting time.Should we limit screens after a certain point or stick to our promise? via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2UEqJTC
