Kudos to the parent in the mental health room next to me

I was sitting with my suicidal child in the urgent care (mental edition), minding my own business when I heard another family come in. The kid was definitely elementary school, if that. He wasn’t focused at all, wasn’t listening to the nurse, and the mom kept pulling his attention back. “Tell the Lady thank you for helping you get the door open,” “Thank you for sitting down quietly,” (before he sat down) “We’re here because your teachers can’t keep you controlled, we’re gonna fix your medicine.” “Thank you for giving the nurse back her chair and not bouncing.” Just speaking clearly, staying polite even as you could hear the frustration, repeating her words as many times as he needed, everything. I was legit impressed and recognized several techniques from parenting books my husband has read to help us with our own child. This woman has very obviously done her absolute best to do everything she can to help her ADHD child. If I weren’t so shy I would have thanked her for being so inspirational. So here’s hoping she’s on this thread and reads this someday. Tl;dr Went to mental urgent care for my child, found inspiration for myself. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Sl9bKK
