My nine year old step daughter has awful social skills and is very flippant with her grandparents when they FaceTime her. I tried to show her a video I saw of an 11 year old child with an adult (both of whom were transgender) because the child was communicating with the adult in an incredibly empathetic way. I myself was moved to tears when I first saw it. However I was quickly shut down by my husband who thought the topic was highly inappropriate and refused to let her see it. In this case, the topic was by the by. The point was the interaction between the two people but he couldn’t see past the issue.
