Any advise for staying a couple who have a child and not two individuals with a child?

My parents had one of the top ten worst divorces ever. I remember being about 10 years old in a McDonalds and seeing this couple who were sitting there having a conversation while their well behaved kids did their own thing. This had a BIG impact on me. The impression I got was that they were a couple who happened to have kids, not two people that got so caught up with having kids that they forgot about each other.We are expecting our first child. I’ve heard so many divorce stories about people walking into pregnancy as a couple and then coming out as an individuals with a baby.
