12 yr old son assaulted at school

Hey everyone first time posting here and first time dealing with an issue like this. Today my 12 yr old son was assaulted at school by another boy twice his size. My son is wouldn’t tell us the whole story because he is afraid of the boy and his friends so we had to talk to the mother of one of his friends he was talking when this happened. The boy grabbed both my sons legs and pulled him off the table and he fell onto the ground hard and broke his arm. The teacher was sitting on his computer and didn’t see it happen. The vice principal just brushed it off like it was no big deal. I am beyond livid right now and I don’t know what to do. This bully has a history of fighting kids in school and slapped another girl in the face today. All the kids are terrified of him and the school seems to not care in the least even though they preach zero tolerance for bullying. I want to press charges, but can you press charges against a 12 yr old? I don’t feel like this kid should be in the school if he is this violent. My son wants us to do nothing and pretend like this never happened but his arm is broken. The plan now is for my wife and I to go to the school in the morning and try to talk to the principal to see what his plans are for discipline this kid. We’d also like to file a report with the police. My concern is making my sons life worse at school. He already has a tough time fitting in. How does the teacher not see this happen in his classroom? He had my son just sit and finish class then held him back after class to find out what happened. Like I already said my son is terrified of this boy. He lives in our neighborhood, rides the bus with my son. I need to take action but I want to do it in the right way. I’m so mad right now and just don’t know what to do. Any suggestions or tips from parents who have dealt with this would be much appreciated. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2DFOHJI
